Sierra is seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join its growing legal team. This role will partner closely with product and engineering teams to ensure responsible go-to-market strategies for AI products, embedding privacy, compliance, and risk considerations throughout the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in product counseling for AI or other emerging technologies and thrive in dynamic, challenging environments. You will be a key legal advisor, shaping how Sierra's innovative agent platform and new products are launched responsibly, while contributing to a highly respected legal team committed to excellence and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end legal support for product development from concept to launch for Sierra's agent platform and new products.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate privacy-by-design principles and AI transparency measures.
- Advise customer-facing teams on legal requirements for product features, including consumer protection and telecommunications.
- Develop scalable product review processes, launch checklists, and self-serve guidance for product teams.
- Advise on emerging AI-specific regulations and their applicability to Sierra's products.
- Partner with the privacy team to implement AI governance policies and frameworks for responsible AI deployment.
- Monitor legal developments affecting AI products and advise leadership on risks, trends, and design implications.
Requirements
- 8+ years of legal experience, including time at a large international law firm and in-house at a tech company.
- Extensive experience advising product and engineering teams on new product development, preferably involving AI/ML, communications, or platform products.
- Working knowledge of privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), AI regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, NIST AI Risk Management Framework), consumer protection, and IP.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams to understand product offerings.
- Strong analytical skills to balance legal risks and business objectives in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work with both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong work ethic with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to be a team player and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
