Sierra is building a platform to enable companies to create better, more human customer experiences with AI. As a Forward Deployed Infrastructure Engineer, you will be a founding member of this function, owning the end-to-end lifecycle of customer deployments. You will help define how Sierra's AI platform is deployed and operated across enterprise environments, working directly with customers to architect, deploy, upgrade, and manage the AI platform infrastructure. Your role will be crucial in ensuring deployments meet security, compliance, and operational requirements, while also establishing the standards, tooling, and processes for scalable and repeatable deployments. You will partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Sales, and Customer Success to scale complex customer engagements.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute deployment architecture conversations, designing and implementing deployment strategies across customer environments.
- Manage the full infrastructure lifecycle for critical customers, including initial deployment, upgrades, scaling, and incident support.
- Develop and maintain deployment runbooks, upgrade procedures, and automation tooling for repeatable and reliable operations.
- Partner with engineering teams to ensure the platform is deployable and operable across diverse customer requirements.
- Collaborate with customers' platform engineering, security, and DevOps teams to navigate infrastructure constraints and compliance.
- Scope infrastructure requirements during pre-sales and onboarding, translating customer needs into deployment plans.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering, or solutions architecture with customer-facing deployment work.
- Deep experience with AWS services, Terraform, container orchestration, and cloud networking (VPCs, IAM, DNS, load balancing).
- Proven track record of managing deployments in customer-owned cloud environments, including security reviews, compliance, and change management.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity with enterprise stakeholders and translate infrastructure conversations into actionable plans.
- Strong operational instincts, considering upgrades, rollbacks, monitoring, and failure modes from the outset.
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and collaborating across teams.
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
