About the job
Sierra is seeking a technical Voice Designer to craft and implement AI voices for customer experiences, focusing on European locales. This forward-deployed role involves working directly with customers to translate their requirements into production-quality AI voices. You will collaborate with the voice platform team to implement and tune voices at scale, which includes recording and editing audio, and making code-level changes within the Sierra platform. The position requires a blend of product sensibility, design taste, customer partnership, and technical comfort with command-line tooling, sitting at the intersection of speech, brand, and engineering.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement natural-sounding production-ready voices for European locales and key customers.
- Tune voices directly using Sierra's platform tooling, including command-line prompts and pull requests.
- Source, direct, and record voice actors, and prepare audio files for the voice pipeline.
- Partner with customers to understand requirements and translate brand language into voice specifications.
- Define and measure voice quality, and build feedback loops for improvement.
- Manage language contractors for voice tuning, nuance review, and quality assessment.
- Inform the platform roadmap by collating customer feedback and scoping necessary tools and workflows.
Requirements
- Professional experience in audio, sound, or voice design (e.g., sound designer, audio designer, voice/UX audio designer, music/audio production).
- Hands-on experience recording and editing speech/audio, directing voice talent, and using professional studio settings and DAWs (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton, Audition, iZotope RX).
- Experience with speech synthesis/TTS, voice cloning, or conversational AI voice tooling (e.g., ElevenLabs).
- Demonstrable taste and craft in audio design, with a portfolio showcasing voices, earcons, sonic branding, or character voices.
- Comfort with technical, command-line-adjacent tooling, including writing basic scripts, running CLI commands, making config/code tweaks, and submitting pull requests.
- Comfort working directly with clients to meet expectations and timelines.
