SF Tensor is building the future of high-performance compute for AI by optimizing the entire stack, from hardware to cloud. They are developing a Kernel Optimizer for faster, cheaper, and more accessible compute, and a Model Foundry to manage experiments and move workloads across clouds and chips. This role focuses on the modeling side of their enterprise offering, which aims to turn customer datasets into specialist models in days. The infrastructure is designed to accelerate research and model training, enabling rapid experimentation and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Own the post-training pipeline end-to-end, including data curation, SFT, preference optimization, RL, evals, distillation, and deployment.
- Design reward functions and RL approaches in collaboration with customer domain experts.
- Build a trustworthy evaluation harness for making ship/no-ship decisions within short timeframes, especially for subjective tasks.
- Structure and generate datasets, including synthetic data pipelines, from customer-provided data.
- Distill specialist models into smaller, more efficient models.
- Drive down the time-to-model by identifying and removing critical path bottlenecks.
- Embed with customers as a forward-deployed researcher and facilitate pipeline handover to their teams.
Requirements
- Proven experience shipping post-trained models into production and understanding associated tradeoffs.
- Hands-on expertise in SFT and RL (DPO, GRPO, PPO, or similar).
- Proficiency in judging evaluations, understanding what to measure, the meaning of results, and identifying misleading metrics.
- Comfort with owning data workflows, including curation, filtering, labeling, and synthetic generation.
- Proficiency in PyTorch or JAX.
- Willingness to collaborate with customer domain experts to translate their intuition into reward functions.
