Sarvam is building India's full-stack sovereign AI platform, focusing on research, models, infrastructure, and applications to make AI work for India. They partner with leading enterprises and public institutions, backed by prominent venture capital firms.
This role is for a Product Manager for Model APIs, sitting at the intersection of research and the market. You will own the API surface, including its shape, pricing, packaging, and production readiness. Additionally, you will influence model direction by prioritizing capabilities, languages, and domains, and defining what constitutes a shippable product. This is an opportunity to directly impact the model roadmap, not just its interface.
Responsibilities
- Own the product surface for model APIs across speech, language, and multimodal, including spec, versioning, documentation, developer experience, and deprecation.
- Shape model roadmaps by incorporating usage data, evaluations, and customer feedback into decisions about training, fine-tuning, and releases.
- Define and maintain quality standards for each model line, considering accuracy, latency, cost per call, and robustness.
- Manage the evaluation process as a product, including benchmark suites, testing, human evaluations, and reporting on model progress.
- Translate customer and developer feedback into model and API requirements, and communicate changes and rationale back to users.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams on model rollout, capacity, monitoring, and reliability in production.
- Oversee end-to-end release planning, including positioning, launch, user migration, and managing trade-offs.
- Clearly communicate priorities and trade-offs to research, engineering, go-to-market, and leadership teams.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building AI/ML products, developer platforms, or APIs, where model decisions were integral to the product.
- Working fluency with the model lifecycle, including data, training, fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with data-driven decision-making.
- Sound judgment on trade-offs between quality, latency, and cost, with the confidence to make and defend decisions.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with and gain the trust of researchers.
