About the job
Salesforce is seeking a Software Engineer to join the brand-new Software Factory team. This team is responsible for industrializing software development by building a platform that enables coding agents to perform real work on the company's codebase. The role involves creating remote sandboxes for agents to run builds safely, developing orchestration for agent tasks triggered from various platforms like Slack and GitHub, and implementing observability to ensure the trustworthiness of agent output at scale. The team's strategy is to leverage existing off-the-shelf coding agents rather than building their own, focusing on the surrounding factory infrastructure. As one of the first hires, you will have significant influence in shaping this platform from the ground up, working closely with the CTO on architecture, build-vs-buy decisions, and future priorities, while delivering value to internal customers from day one.
Responsibilities
- Build triggers and orchestration to initiate agent runs from Slack messages, Linear tickets, GitHub events, and schedules, producing outcomes like PRs, preview environments, documents, and Slack replies.
- Shape the context provided to agents, including codebase history, Notion, Slack, Datadog, and integration twins for systems like Salesforce.
- Develop human-in-the-loop interfaces for reviewing and guiding agent plans, artifacts, and code.
- Evaluate and integrate a rapidly evolving ecosystem of sandboxes, orchestrators, and agents, making sound build-vs-buy judgments.
- Partner directly with the CTO to define priorities, architecture, and the future direction of the factory.
- Own the end-to-end delivery of features, from design through launch, monitoring, and iteration.
- Help establish best practices for how the entire engineering organization interacts with agents on a daily basis.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with coding agents and LLM tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), with informed opinions on their strengths and weaknesses.
- Proven experience building developer tooling, CI/CD systems, or platform infrastructure used by other engineers.
- Experience building observability for agent work, including traces, tool audit trails, and cost per execution.
- A track record of successfully delivering complex systems and leading engineering efforts.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous environments where roadmaps and conventions are still being defined.
- Pragmatic judgment regarding build-vs-buy decisions in a fast-paced ecosystem.
