About the job
Salesforce is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead the DNS Engineering team, which is responsible for the DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) services infrastructure that underpins all Salesforce products. This role involves setting the multi-year strategy for authoritative and recursive DNS across data centers and public clouds, managing self-service DNS and IPAM APIs, and enhancing DNS security, including DNSSEC and DDoS resilience. The ideal candidate will lead the transition to cloud-native, multi-provider DNS with a focus on automation and AI-assisted operations, ensuring the availability and performance of this critical Tier-0 service.
Responsibilities
- Define the multi-year vision and roadmap for Salesforce DNS and DDI, and oversee execution from architecture through delivery and operational excellence.
- Hire, develop, and retain a diverse, high-performing engineering team, setting clear goals and managing performance.
- Establish availability, latency, and change-safety targets (SLOs) for DNS, and lead incident and problem management processes.
- Lead the modernization of the DNS platform towards cloud-native, multi-provider solutions on Hyperforce, including migrations and Kubernetes integration.
- Drive automation through self-service APIs, policy-as-code, and AI-assisted tooling to reduce toil and improve change management.
- Enhance the DNS security posture by championing DNSSEC, DDoS resilience, and secure record management practices.
- Balance feature delivery, live-site work, operational load, and tech-debt paydown through data-driven trade-offs.
- Represent DNS in architecture and planning forums, translating priorities from dependent teams into a ranked roadmap.
- Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs to senior leadership and serve as the senior escalation point for DNS during critical incidents.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
- Proven track record of building and scaling diverse, high-performing infrastructure or platform teams.
- Experience delivering complex, highly available production systems.
- Deep understanding of DNS and core internet protocols (DNS, DNSSEC, TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS, load balancing) at scale.
