Runway Labs is seeking a Prototype Researcher to join their research and exploration team, focusing on the frontiers of AI video and General World Models. This role involves imagining, designing, and building experimental experiences that make emerging AI capabilities tangible and communicate a compelling vision for the future of technology. The position blends creative thinking, hands-on prototyping, and storytelling, requiring the ability to develop original ideas, build working prototypes, and present them as clear, memorable demonstrations. The goal is to help others understand new AI systems through engaging and interactive experiences.
Responsibilities
- Develop original concepts exploring possibilities of emerging AI systems, including interactive video, world models, and agentic experiences.
- Design and build working prototypes to transform research capabilities into engaging and understandable experiences.
- Shape the narrative of each project, articulating its exploration, significance, and future implications.
- Package explorations into polished demos, films, and interactive experiences to communicate research and vision.
- Collaborate with researchers and engineers to understand new capabilities and identify compelling demonstration methods.
- Utilize rapid experimentation to test ideas and refine both the experience and its narrative.
Requirements
- A portfolio showcasing original projects with creative thinking, design craft, technical execution, and strong storytelling.
- Ability to take an idea from concept to a working prototype and compelling presentation.
- Hands-on experience building interactive experiences with code, with the judgment to select appropriate tools.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills, with attention to detail and an aptitude for simplifying complex ideas.
- Genuine curiosity about AI video, world models, agentic systems, and emerging generative media.
- Comfort working in ambiguous research environments, defining personal direction, and learning new tools.
- Ability to clearly explain the purpose and potential of work through writing, visuals, demos, or film.
