Runway Labs is seeking a passionate Design Engineer to join their research and exploration team, focusing on the frontier of AI video and General World Models. This role is embedded within a fast-moving, experimental lab environment, distinct from core consumer products. The ideal candidate is a self-starter experienced in collaborating with engineering and research teams to rapidly prototype and deliver innovative solutions. You will explore new interfaces and interaction paradigms for AI-generated video, world models, and agentic systems, translating cutting-edge research into practical, user-friendly experiences. This position requires a strong combination of design skills, technical expertise, and a deep interest in AI.
Responsibilities
- Prototype and implement novel user experiences at the intersection of AI video, world models, and generative media.
- Design and build agentic tools and interfaces for researchers and creatives to interact with and direct AI systems.
- Explore new application areas for AI video and general world models, including simulation, interactive media, and research tooling.
- Push the boundaries of front-end engineering for research and experimentation.
- Create internal tools and frameworks for design and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product designers to define the future of AI-driven creativity.
Requirements
- Genuine curiosity about AI video, world models, agentic engineering, and generative media.
- Intuition for designing meaningful interactions with AI systems.
- Experience designing flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity UIs for web and agentic products.
- Experience building agentic tools or interfaces (systems where AI takes actions, reasons over state, or drives multi-step workflows).
- Strong understanding of visual and interaction design principles.
- Proficiency in usability testing.
- Comfort working in ambiguous, research-oriented environments with evolving problem spaces.
