About the job
Roboflow Labs is seeking a Research Scientist to join their applied research unit. This role sits at the intersection of benchmarks, models, and frontier labs, focusing on failure analysis, dataset specification, and validation of data quality. The scientist will contribute to publishing new benchmarks, extending existing ones like RF100-VL, and shaping the research agenda with work grounded in real-world deployments. This position offers the opportunity to see research directly translate into shipped data products and influence the direction of AI development.
Responsibilities
- Design datasets, evaluations, and RL environments for vision-language, multi-modal, robotics, and coding models.
- Conduct failure analyses on partner labs' models and write remediation specifications for data.
- Own the research and publication of new benchmarks.
- Empirically validate data quality through fine-tuning, ablation, and measurement.
- Contribute to Roboflow's open models (e.g., RF-DETR) and represent the research team within the community.
- Collaborate with research scientists at frontier labs to translate their roadmaps into data programs.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent research experience in computer vision, multi-modal learning, machine learning, or a related field.
- Track record of published work or shipped research.
- Hands-on experience with post-training techniques like fine-tuning, RL, evaluation design, or data curation for large models.
- Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to write code for experiments.
- Clear written communication skills.
- Experience at a frontier lab or as a data/evaluation partner is a plus.
- Experience with vision-language models, robotics learning, or agentic coding evaluations is a plus.
Benefits
- Base salary of $250,000 – $450,000
- Equity in the company
- Generous stipends for travel, productivity, tools, and meals
- Up to 100% coverage of health insurance costs
- Unlimited PTO with a 2-week minimum
- 12 weeks parental leave
