Anthropic is seeking a Research Engineer/Scientist to contribute to the development of reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. This role involves working on large-scale ML systems from the ground up, with a focus on safety and trustworthiness. You will be involved in all aspects of the codebase and infrastructure, including improving system reliability, enhancing throughput and efficiency, designing and running scientific experiments, and developing tooling. The ideal candidate is excited to write code within a research context and understands the broader importance of their work.
Responsibilities
- Improve cluster reliability for large jobs
- Enhance throughput and efficiency of ML systems
- Design and run scientific experiments
- Improve development tooling
- Optimize the throughput of new attention mechanisms
- Compare the compute efficiency of Transformer variants
- Scale distributed training jobs to thousands of GPUs
- Write design documentation for fault tolerance strategies
- Create visualizations of attention between tokens in language models
Requirements
- Significant software engineering experience
- Results-oriented with a bias towards flexibility and impact
- Proactive in picking up tasks outside of job description
- Enjoy pair programming
- Interest in learning machine learning research
- Care about the societal impacts of AI work
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience in a field relevant to the role
