Anthropic is seeking Research Engineers to reimagine how Claude interacts with external data sources. This role involves designing novel architectures for organizing information and training language models to effectively utilize these architectures. The goal is to move beyond traditional data paradigms to accommodate the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs).
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new information architecture strategies from scratch.
- Fine-tune and apply reinforcement learning to train language models for interaction with new information architectures.
- Build robust knowledge base evaluation sets to identify failure modes in LLM interaction with external data.
- Design and evaluate advanced agentic search capabilities.
Requirements
- Experienced Python programmer capable of producing high-quality, reliable code.
- Strong machine learning research experience.
- Experience developing software that utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Results-oriented with a bias towards flexibility and impact.
- Willingness to collaborate and assist teammates, even outside of direct job responsibilities.
- Enjoy pair programming.
- Desire to partner with world-class ML researchers to develop new LLM capabilities.
- Interest in the societal impacts of AI work.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with product teams for rapid prototyping and delivery.
- Experience building complex agentic systems utilizing LLMs.
- Experience developing scalable distributed information retrieval systems (e.g., search engines, knowledge graphs, RAG, indexing, ranking, query understanding, distributed data processing).
