Replit is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Money team and lead the development of their agentic commerce platform. This role will be instrumental in building the infrastructure that allows businesses to discover, evaluate, purchase, and manage products and services directly within Replit. You will be responsible for designing intuitive yet robust commerce experiences that cater to both consumer simplicity and enterprise-level controls, ensuring agent-assisted purchasing is useful, trustworthy, and reliable. The position involves owning the architecture, leading cross-team delivery, and staying hands-on with design and code to translate an ambitious product vision into tangible customer value.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end purchasing experiences through Replit Agent, translating user intent into options, communicating costs, obtaining authorization, executing purchases, and confirming fulfillment.
- Build extensible integrations with merchants, software vendors, and service providers to expand the platform's commerce offering.
- Extend existing payment integrations, including Stripe, to support new purchasing experiences.
- Design agent-facing APIs and tools with clear contracts, secure credentials, scoped permissions, and spending limits.
- Partner with product and security teams to support enterprise purchasing requirements like role-based access, approval workflows, and auditable transaction histories.
- Own the purchase lifecycle beyond checkout, including provisioning, order state, receipts, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and reconciliation.
- Ensure reliability of agent-driven transactions through idempotency, verified events, durable state, and safe retries.
- Lead ambiguous initiatives across teams, define milestones, implement solutions, and mentor engineers to improve engineering quality.
Requirements
- Track record of Staff-level technical leadership on complex customer-facing products or platforms.
- Strong hands-on engineering and system design skills, including API design, data modeling, distributed workflows, and system evolution.
- Experience building extensible third-party integrations and handling asynchronous events, duplicate requests, and partial failures.
- Strong product judgment to translate complex workflows into simple user experiences.
- Security-conscious approach to authentication, authorization, credentials, sensitive data, and actions performed on behalf of users.
- Demonstrated ability to align engineering and cross-functional partners on technical direction and drive execution.
- Experience mentoring engineers and improving architecture, implementation, and operations.
- Comfort using AI-assisted development tools while ensuring code correctness, security, and maintainability.
