About the job
Replit is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Developer Experience team. This role focuses on accelerating engineering velocity and reducing friction within Replit's development workflows. You will be responsible for stewarding codebases, tooling, and developer workflows, directly impacting every engineer at Replit. The position combines technical depth in a complex codebase with a product mindset to understand how infrastructure decisions affect developer productivity and customer value. You will also collaborate with the AI team to enhance the internal AI platform, which currently generates over 60% of merged PRs, and help shape its future strategy.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and evolve codebase structure, including TypeScript monorepos, Go services, npm packages, and internal Agentic tooling.
- Own and optimize build and test pipelines to minimize build times and improve developer iteration speed.
- Drive code generation and type-safe interfaces across service boundaries using technologies like GraphQL, Protocol Buffers, gRPC, and OpenAPI.
- Set code quality standards using automation tools (TypeScript, ESLint, Prettier, Go linters/formatters) and build custom rules/plugins.
- Streamline development setup and the onboarding experience for engineers.
- Collaborate with platform teams to enhance deployment processes, infrastructure integrations, and external tooling.
- Modernize the codebase by adopting and leading migrations to improved and faster tools.
- Partner with the AI team to improve the Agent's output and shape strategy for its default stack.
- Manage internal and external dependencies, including interfacing with open-source libraries.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Go, or Nix.
- Expertise in modern build systems and toolchains (e.g., Vite, webpack, esbuild, Go's build/module system).
- Proficiency with linters, formatters, testing frameworks, and code generation tools.
- Experience managing monorepos or large-scale codebases.
- Experience building self-service developer platforms (CI/CD, infra, or tooling) is a plus.
- Experience with AI-native development workflows (e.g., OpenCode, Claude Code, Cursor, custom agent skills) is a plus.
- Open-source leadership or community contributions are a plus.
