About the job
Replit is seeking a Product Engineer to focus on the frontend platform, which serves as the foundation for all core product experiences. In this role, you will own the frontend architecture, including application frameworks, API and data layers, testing infrastructure, and client performance. The primary goal is to enable product teams to ship features quickly and reliably on the platform you build. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and design teams, as well as the DevEx and Design Engineering teams, to plan, ship, and operate these critical frontend foundations for high-traffic, latency-sensitive workloads. This is a high-leverage, horizontal role that offers exposure across the entire engineering organization, ideal for someone who enjoys making other engineers more effective.
Responsibilities
- Design platform APIs and shared primitives with clear contracts, documentation, and upgrade paths for adoption by other teams.
- Profile and instrument real user journeys to identify and implement performance improvements.
- Roll out cross-cutting changes safely using codemods, migration paths, and staged rollouts.
- Set technical direction in design and architecture reviews, documenting decisions and operational expectations.
- Collaborate with product teams to translate their challenges into reusable platform improvements.
Requirements
- Experience shipping and operating user-facing software in production.
- Experience designing frontend architecture that other teams build upon (frameworks, state, routing, SSR/CSR, migrations).
- Experience building and operating an API/data layer (REST/GraphQL, error handling, caching).
- Experience measuring and improving client performance with instrumentation and monitoring.
- Ability to make and explain architecture tradeoffs across UX, correctness, delivery speed, and maintainability.
- Proficiency in modern web stacks including TypeScript, React, Next.js, and Node.js.
