About the job
Replit is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to establish and lead its Anti-Abuse team. This is a foundational role where you will define the anti-abuse strategy, recruit a team of engineers and data analysts, and implement systems to safeguard Replit's platform, users, and financial operations from malicious actors. You will collaborate with various departments, including Support, Legal, Security, Infrastructure, and Growth, to deter abuse economically while minimizing disruption for legitimate users. The role involves addressing emerging AI-native abuse challenges, such as phishing, cryptomining, LLM token farming, payment fraud, and AI agent exploitation, and building the defenses against them.
Responsibilities
- Build the anti-abuse roadmap, including threat modeling and prioritization of abuse vectors.
- Design and implement progressive verification and identity infrastructure to manage platform access.
- Act as a hands-on Engineering Manager, writing code, prototyping, and using AI coding tools.
- Define key metrics for anti-abuse efforts and establish data pipelines for tracking.
- Hire, mentor, and grow a high-leverage team of software engineers and data analysts.
- Operate cross-functionally with Support, Legal, Security, Infrastructure, and Growth teams.
- Develop adaptive friction systems to make abuse economically unviable while maintaining user experience.
Requirements
- 6-10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a management role.
- Experience in anti-abuse, trust and safety, fraud, or a related adversarial domain.
- Hands-on coding ability and experience using AI coding tools.
- Experience building scalable detection and enforcement systems (e.g., rules engines, ML risk scoring).
- Experience with identity, KYC, or progressive verification systems is a plus.
- Strong product and metrics intuition, with experience defining success metrics for ambiguous problems.
- Experience operating cross-functionally and communicating technical concepts to business impact.
- Excellent written communication skills and ability to create clarity in ambiguous environments.
