Replit is seeking a Director, Product Design to lead the day-to-day operations of its Product Design organization. This is a player-coach role where you will lead and develop a talented team of product designers while remaining deeply involved in the work itself, whiteboarding with designers and navigating complex product decisions. You will create the structure, alignment, and momentum to enable exceptional work, staying deeply informed on active initiatives to surface context and insights for thoughtful decision-making. Success requires exceptional product judgment, strong design taste, technical fluency, and a collaborative approach to elevate both the work and the team.
Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Product Design organization, ensuring work is aligned, prioritized, and delivered to a high standard.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of product designers.
- Shape and elevate the customer journey.
- Collaborate with designers by whiteboarding, exploring alternatives, reviewing work, and solving product challenges.
- Stay informed on active initiatives to provide context and insights for design critique and product decisions.
- Raise product design quality through feedback, craft, and design taste.
- Evolve Replit's design practices, workflows, and team culture.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard exceptional product design talent.
Requirements
- Significant experience leading product design teams in high-growth technology companies.
- Proven ability to balance people leadership with hands-on product design contribution.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft, interaction design, product thinking, and systems thinking.
- Experience partnering with Product and Engineering to deliver technically sophisticated products.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional product development in fast-moving environments.
- Exceptional communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong design taste, sound judgment, and a bias toward action.
- Experience simplifying complex technical products into elegant user experiences.
