About the job

Replit is seeking a founding Data Scientist for its Growth team. This role will partner with Product and Engineering leadership to drive initiatives across acquisition, activation, and recommender systems. The ideal candidate is proactive, identifies opportunities, and influences product development with a strong point of view. You will own data science for major growth areas, design experiments and metrics to bridge short-term readouts with long-term outcomes, and help establish experimentation standards for high-traffic surfaces. The role also involves using quasi-experimental designs, defining data science for personalization and recommendations, modeling freemium economics, and developing user segmentation.

Responsibilities

  • Own data science for major growth areas, partnering with PMs and engineers from problem framing and sizing through launch and readout
  • Design experiments and metrics (e.g., CUPED, sequential testing, short-term proxy metrics) to make fast decisions trustworthy and bridge short-term readouts with long-term outcomes
  • Help set experimentation standards for high-traffic surfaces, including defining metrics, guardrails, and checks for broken tests
  • Use quasi-experimental designs (difference-in-differences, synthetic control, regression discontinuity) where randomization isn't feasible
  • Help define the data science for personalization and recommendations, including problem framing, offline/online evaluation, and measuring incremental lift
  • Model the economics of a freemium, usage-based product, including credit consumption, conversion, and the impact of pricing and limits on behavior
  • Develop user and project segmentation using behavioral and content signals (e.g., embeddings, clustering)
  • Partner with Data Engineering on a shared metrics layer and experimentation tooling

Requirements

  • 6+ years in data science, with significant time on growth or experimentation for high-scale prosumer, PLG, or self-serve products
  • Data science experience at a fast-growing startup, building metrics, datasets, and experimentation practices with limited infrastructure
  • Deep expertise in experimental design and statistical inference, including making reliable decisions with short readout windows and slow outcomes
  • Experience establishing experimentation standards or platforms adopted by multiple teams
  • Expert SQL and Python
  • Track record of analysis that changed team shipments and influenced senior Product and Engineering leaders
  • Heavy, practical use of AI tools to increase personal work speed

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary & Equity
  • 401(k) Program with a 4% match (US Only)
  • Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance
  • Short Term and Long Term Disability
  • Paid Parental, Medical, Caregiver Leave
  • Flexible Time Off (FTO) + Holidays
  • Commuter Benefits (In-Office & US Only)
  • Monthly Wellness Stipend
  • Autonomous Work Environment
  • In Office Set-Up Reimbursement (In-Office Only)
  • Quarterly Team Gatherings
  • In Office Amenities (In-Office Only)
