About the job

Reflection is seeking an AI Trust, Safety and Integrity Counsel to lead legal support for all AI safety risks and regulations applicable to the development of frontier AI. This role involves working at the forefront of AI law, translating complex global safety and integrity regimes into actionable product roadmaps. You will serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams within a rapidly scaling AI lab, ensuring that our frontier open foundation models are developed with trust, safety, and integrity as top priorities. You will advise on both US and international AI trust, safety, and integrity regulatory landscapes and their practical application to frontier AI, collaborating closely with product, research, engineering, and safety teams, as well as other business operations and compliance units, to implement measures for responsible model development. This is a high-impact, build-stage position where you will actively design policies, review processes, escalation pathways, and business-facing guidance to enable Reflection to move swiftly while maintaining a robust and defensible compliance posture.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary legal contact for all trust, safety, and integrity-related legal issues.
  • Advise on existing and developing US and international AI safety requirements.
  • Design and implement content safety standards for the business, including model development and open-weight releases.
  • Develop policies with trust and safety product teams to ensure models meet safety standards and regulations.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to implement safety controls for responsible model releases and compliance with current and future safety and content regulations.
  • Advise on safety and integrity considerations in commercial and strategic transactions, including partnerships, data and model collaborations, and research partnerships.
  • Address legal risks associated with potential AI harms and provide guidance on key legal frameworks.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments from relevant authorities and translate them into practical guidance.
  • Help establish a risk-based compliance posture for AI-specific trust and safety questions.

Requirements

  • J.D. and active bar membership (or in-house registration) in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Approximately 10+ years of experience advising on U.S. and International content safety legal, regulatory, and litigation matters.
  • Experience advising technology companies on content safety issues, particularly in AI, cloud computing, semiconductors, advanced computing, cybersecurity, infrastructure, data centers, or other strategically sensitive technologies.
  • Deep familiarity with key safety and content regulatory frameworks across all potential types of harms.
  • Strong ability to exercise independent judgment and take proactive steps in evolving legal areas.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills, capable of explaining complex legal requirements to diverse teams.
  • Prior experience at a high-growth technology company, AI lab, cloud provider, or other content-safety-sensitive technology business is ideal.
  • Experience with open source access technology is a plus.
