Reflection is seeking a Platform Foundations Lead to build and operate the foundational layer that all engineering teams depend on. This includes cloud and multi-cloud infrastructure, networking, security, and developer tooling. The role involves leading a team of infrastructure engineers, guiding technical and architectural decisions, and working closely with other engineering teams. You will also manage cloud and infrastructure vendors and contribute as an individual contributor to stay close to the technical stack.
Responsibilities
- Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of infrastructure and platform engineers.
- Provide leadership for engineering efforts to build the foundational platform, including multi-cloud design, networking, identity and security, and developer infrastructure.
- Stay hands-on with the team's technical stack to make targeted individual contributions.
- Manage day-to-day execution, prioritizing work and managing projects in a dynamic environment.
- Guide technical and architectural decisions, focusing on scalability, robustness, security, and cost predictability.
- Work closely with research and engineering teams.
- Manage cloud and infrastructure vendor relationships and deals.
- Raise the bar for technical judgment, prioritization, communication, and execution.
Requirements
- Experience building, mentoring, and growing infrastructure or platform teams while staying technically hands-on.
- Deep infrastructure or platform engineering experience with ownership of production-grade systems at scale.
- Strong coding ability and credibility to earn technical trust.
- Deep expertise in at least one of: cloud platforms, network engineering, security architecture, or developer tooling, with working knowledge across others.
- Fluency with modern infra toolkit: Terraform/Pulumi, Kubernetes, CI/CD and build systems (e.g. Bazel), and observability (Prometheus/Grafana/OpenTelemetry).
- Experience managing cloud and infrastructure vendors, including negotiating and operating deals.
- Ability to guide strategy and drive execution across a multi-cloud, multi-team environment.
- Ability to partner effectively with research and engineering teams.
