About the job

Ramp is seeking a product-minded backend engineer to join their Growth team, focusing on building the AI-native infrastructure for finance teams. This role will be instrumental in developing systems that automate and enhance customer-facing experiences for Go-to-Market and Product Growth teams. You will work on marketing-led products, including AI-powered systems for campaign asset creation, workflow automation, and personalized customer experiences across various channels. A key focus will be on building Ramp's incentives platform, ensuring safe targeting, authorization, distribution, and measurement of incentives, while combining marketer-friendly workflows with robust financial controls and closed-loop measurement. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of product engineering, AI, data, marketing, and financial infrastructure, translating ambiguous workflows into durable systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build backend systems powering AI-native marketing and growth products.
  • Develop shared incentives infrastructure for eligibility, targeting, policies, budgets, authorization, issuance, redemption, and outcome tracking.
  • Enable personalized content and offers across various channels using shared customer and campaign context.
  • Design reliable orchestration for long-running tasks, approvals, scheduling, retries, human intervention, and safe AI or financial execution.
  • Connect marketing actions and incentive spend to measurable activation, conversion, retention, and revenue outcomes.
  • Partner across departments to own systems from discovery through production adoption and iteration.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building production backend systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or another modern server-side language.
  • Track record of owning production services, APIs, data models, and distributed or event-driven workflows.
  • Strong product judgment and system-design fundamentals, including data modeling, asynchronous processing, reliability, testing, and observability.
  • Experience building governed systems involving permissions, policies, budgets, balances, entitlements, or financial actions.
  • Experience applying AI to real product workflows or strong interest in doing so, understanding where deterministic controls and human approval are required.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and a bias toward rapidly shipping measurable user and business outcomes.

Benefits

  • Flexible PTO
  • Centralized home-office equipment ordering
  • Health and wellness stipend
  • Budget for intra-office travel
  • Weekly coffee stipend
  • 100% medical, dental & vision insurance coverage for you, with partial coverage for dependents (US)
