Raindrop is seeking a founding Research Engineer to investigate the behavior of AI agents in production environments. This role is crucial for an early-stage team, involving setting the research direction, conducting experiments, and disseminating findings through publications. The focus will be on understanding agent failures, advancing simulation techniques, developing novel detection methods for undefined issues, and exploring high-impact open questions in AI agent behavior. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a passion for sharing research, deep expertise in areas like interpretability or AI safety, and the ability to prototype and ship experiments.
Responsibilities
- Set the research agenda and execute experiments.
- Design evaluations and metrics for problems with unclear ground truth.
- Publish research findings in papers, blog posts, and talks.
- Prototype new methods and integrate successful ones into the product.
- Help define the research function as the team and product grow.
Requirements
- Ability to clarify complex ideas through strong written and communication skills.
- Commitment to sharing research via publications, open-source work, or public write-ups.
- Deep expertise in interpretability, evals, AI safety, anomaly detection, or representation learning.
- Good judgment for prioritizing experiments and validating results.
- Experience shipping experiments and building prototypes.
- Experience using and building AI agents and tools.
