About the job

Scale is seeking a Platform Product Manager to define and own the core infrastructure that powers AI deployment for major organizations. This role is distinct from a typical roadmap or feature-focused PM; you will be responsible for establishing the foundational elements upon which all other AI development relies. Your focus will be on ensuring reliability, prioritizing work based on customer needs and team velocity, identifying reusable patterns for core integration, and upholding a high standard of quality for all platform capabilities. The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record of defining and shipping production-ready platform capabilities in demanding environments, understanding the critical difference between necessary, interesting, and unnecessary development.

Responsibilities

  • Define the core platform layer's foundational requirements for reliable AI development.
  • Prioritize and sequence platform work considering customer commitments, team velocity, and current blockers.
  • Identify repeating patterns in application layer development and determine when to integrate them into the core platform.
  • Ensure all platform capabilities meet a high-quality bar, earning customer trust.
  • Enable delivery teams to focus on customer problems by providing a secure, deployable, and observable platform with essential agentic primitives.
  • Collaborate with platform engineering, forward-deployed PMs, and BU leads to gather signal, resolve trade-offs, and ground the roadmap.
  • Partner with platform engineering to define architectural trade-offs across infrastructure, authentication, observability, deployment, and agent runtimes.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of product management experience, with significant time owning platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products at a production bar.
  • Demonstrated success in defining and shipping platform capabilities, not just features on top of existing platforms.
  • Strong judgment in sequencing and prioritizing work across competing demands with incomplete information.
  • Technical fluency to engage in meaningful discussions about architectural trade-offs in production systems.
  • High degree of ownership and follow-through, driving outcomes across teams without formal authority.
  • Clear and precise communication skills, adaptable to different audiences.
  • Experience defining platform capabilities that can be reliably used in production.
  • Ability to identify repeating patterns in field-built work and determine readiness for core integration.
  • Proficiency in influencing cross-functional teams through evidence and framing.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments and creating structure.
  • Experience with AI/ML platform infrastructure, agent frameworks, eval pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, or observability for AI systems is a plus.
  • Experience deploying into constrained environments (government, regulated industries, air-gapped) is a plus.
  • Prior experience as a platform or infrastructure PM where field-built patterns informed the core product is a plus.
