About the job

Perplexity is seeking a growth engineer to join their team and own product loops that drive user discovery, adoption, and habit formation around their AI experiences. This role involves working across the entire user funnel, from activation and onboarding to retention and paid upgrades, while also developing applied AI systems to enhance these experiences. Engineers will manage end-to-end projects, including training and deploying classifiers to identify high-intent users, personalizing value discovery, and integrating new AI capabilities to achieve measurable adoption and revenue outcomes. The growth team collaborates closely with product, design, data science, and applied AI teams, translating behavioral signals and model outputs into robust product surfaces. This position offers the opportunity to move fast, run numerous experiments concurrently, and take full ownership of outcomes in a fast-growing startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own growth surfaces across the full funnel for Perplexity products.
  • Lead experiments end-to-end, from hypothesis and instrumentation through implementation, analysis, and rollout.
  • Build applied AI systems to power growth, including classifiers, personalization, and AI-driven onboarding.
  • Launch vertical-specific experiences to connect AI capabilities with adoption and revenue outcomes.
  • Optimize key metrics such as activation rate, paid conversion, retention, and habit formation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate user behavior and growth opportunities into technical solutions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Full-stack engineering skills with experience in a modern web stack (Next.js, React, TypeScript, Python).
  • Strong execution skills with the ability to ship multiple experiments and product improvements in parallel.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms.
  • Comfort with SQL and data-informed decision-making.
  • Strong product judgment and ability to translate user behavior into technical solutions.
  • Self-motivated with strong ownership instincts.
  • Genuine interest in and adoption of AI products, with a willingness to learn quickly.
