Perplexity is looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to contribute to the development of next-generation search technologies, with a particular emphasis on retrieval and ranking. This role involves architecting and building essential components of our search platform and model stack, training and evaluating various models including LLMs, and deploying these models efficiently and at scale. The engineer will also be responsible for building and optimizing RAG pipelines for grounding and answer generation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
Responsibilities
- Advance search quality through models, data, tools, or other leverage.
- Design and construct core components of the search platform and model stack.
- Train and evaluate retrieval, ranking, and classification models, including LLMs.
- Deploy models, including LLMs, in a scalable and performant manner.
- Develop and optimize RAG pipelines for grounding and answer generation.
- Collaborate with Data, AI, Infrastructure, and Product teams for efficient delivery.
Requirements
- Deep understanding of search and retrieval systems, including quality evaluation principles and metrics.
- Demonstrated experience with large-scale search or recommender systems.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and execution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in search or recsys-related projects.
