About the job

Perplexity is seeking an Android Growth Engineer to join their Growth team, which is responsible for the product loops that drive user discovery, adoption, and habit formation around their AI experiences on mobile. This role will work across the entire mobile funnel, from install to in-app purchases, for Perplexity, Comet, and Computer on Android. You will own end-to-end projects, including rebuilding onboarding, integrating billing systems, shipping notification experiences, and optimizing App Store Optimization (ASO) and deep-linking to drive measurable adoption. The Growth team operates close to the core product, translating behavioral signals and experimentation into durable product surfaces, requiring fast iteration, parallel experimentation, and an understanding of mobile constraints like release cycles and version fragmentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own growth surfaces across the mobile funnel on Android, including install, activation, onboarding, lifecycle, conversion, retention, and paid upgrade moments.
  • Lead experiments end-to-end, from hypothesis and instrumentation through implementation, analysis, and rollout, shipping many in parallel.
  • Build flag-driven and server-driven patterns to enable testing without waiting for store releases.
  • Own in-app purchase and paywall surfaces, including billing integrations, subscription flows, entitlement correctness, and pricing experiments.
  • Build push and lifecycle notification experiences that earn opt-in, focusing on permission prompts, targeting, timing, deep links, and instrumentation to prove retention impact.
  • Ensure cross-platform surfaces feel native by partnering with web and design engineers for consistency across web, iOS, and Android.
  • Optimize app store performance and attribution in partnership with the rest of the Growth team.
  • Drive key metrics such as install-to-activation, retention, notification engagement, paid conversion, and habit formation through clean data instrumentation and trustworthy experiment readouts.
  • Translate behavioral signals into durable product surfaces by partnering closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Monetization, Marketing, and the core Mobile team.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional mobile engineering experience shipping consumer apps at meaningful scale on Android.
  • Strong native Android skills, specifically Kotlin/Jetpack Compose.
  • Willingness to flex into other parts of the stack to unblock yourself and others.
  • Experience owning a full release cycle, including build and release tooling, phased rollouts, store review, crash monitoring, and safe rollbacks.
  • Strong execution skills, with the ability to ship many experiments and product improvements in parallel and drive them to a clear outcome.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms (e.g., Eppo, Statsig, Optimizely) within a versioned app context.
  • Comfort with data-informed decision-making, including pulling, segmenting, and interpreting funnel data.
  • Strong product judgment to translate user behavior and growth opportunities into effective technical solutions.
  • Self-motivated with strong ownership instincts, capable of proposing experiments and driving improvements proactively.
  • Genuine interest in and adoption of AI products, with a willingness to learn quickly.
