Perplexity is seeking an AI Strategist to join its Applied AI team, focusing on the financial services sector. This role is a blend of commercial and sales engineering, responsible for managing strategic customer engagements from initiation to completion. You will work closely with buyside firms, including hedge funds, private equity, and asset managers, to understand their investment processes and embed them into bespoke solutions built on Perplexity's agentic platform. This involves translating complex workflows into custom skills and agents, and feeding insights back into product development to drive compounding value across customers.
Responsibilities
- Own strategic financial services engagements, leading discovery with investment firms to understand their needs and identify automation opportunities.
- Define project scope, success metrics, pilot designs, and commercial structures for customer deployments.
- Drive the deployment and rollout of solutions across front-office teams, with direct revenue responsibility.
- Build and deliver compelling, workflow-specific demonstrations of Perplexity's capabilities.
- Prototype workflows, skills, and connector configurations using Perplexity Computer and the API Platform to prove value.
- Run pilots and evaluations that withstand scrutiny from financial professionals.
- Translate how financial professionals work into product, connector, and data-partnership priorities.
- Assess and drive the roadmap for market data, filings, transcripts, and research integrations.
- Codify repeatable engagement patterns, including discovery templates, reference workflows, and deployment playbooks.
- Operate as the commercial lead, owning senior relationships and managing engagements through the sales cycle.
- Create urgency, write follow-ups, and manage customer interactions effectively.
Requirements
- 3+ years of direct experience in investment banking, private equity, hedge funds, equity research, or institutional asset management.
- 6+ years of total experience in finance combined with technical go-to-market, sales engineering, solutions architecture, AI product strategy, or applied AI with customer exposure.
- Deep fluency in front-office financial workflows such as screening, comps, diligence, earnings analysis, research synthesis, and portfolio monitoring.
- Strong intuition for AI products, agents, and workflows, with the ability to grasp technical systems.
- Comfortable collaborating with Forward Deployed Engineers and technical teams to scope builds and translate requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous customer problems into executable deployment plans with clear success metrics.
- Strong commercial instincts and comfort interacting with senior financial and technology leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and technical scoping.
- High agency and low ego, with the ability to manage multiple complex workstreams concurrently.
