About the job
OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team is seeking a Technical Deployment Lead (TDL) to define and lead the delivery of complex AI systems to Semiconductor customers. This role involves owning the end-to-end deployment process, from scoping and building solutions to ensuring their adoption across high-value engineering workflows like RTL design, verification, and physical implementation. You will translate business outcomes into technical plans, manage day-to-day execution with cross-functional teams, and partner closely with customers to ensure delivery aligns with their goals. The TDL will focus on deploying next-generation AI capabilities within the semiconductor vertical, driving 0→1 prototypes through MVP and scale, and sharing field insights to guide product and research roadmaps. Success is measured by customer impact, delivery reliability, operating leverage, and product influence.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical delivery plan for multiple work streams, translating customer objectives into a roadmap with milestones and dependencies.
- Manage day-to-day engineering execution across OpenAI and customer teams, tracking progress, unblocking issues, and making trade-offs.
- Embed with Semiconductor customer teams to deploy production solutions, map workflows, and shape integrations.
- Shape production deployments that integrate with customer infrastructure, data systems, and engineering toolchains.
- Partner with Product and Research to ensure platform components and research work streams support deployment goals.
- Codify solution patterns and extract reusable patterns from field signals.
- Own value cases and ROI, setting impact hypotheses, baselines, and KPIs, and reporting on pre-/post-deployment measurements.
- Help define OpenAI's engagement strategy with Semiconductor customers.
Requirements
- 7+ years of customer-facing technical delivery leadership experience.
- Deep expertise in Semiconductor workflows, including RTL design, verification, EDA tooling, and physical implementation.
- Proven track record of leading large, complex customer engagements, ideally involving AI.
- Ability to excel in high ambiguity environments and simplify complex work.
- Proficiency in moving between system-level understanding and execution details, including mapping constraints and sketching architectures.
- Strategic thinking and pattern-matching skills to identify broader trends and connect customer needs to scalable solutions.
- Strong technical fluency and sequencing instincts, with confidence in discussing technical details and making trade-offs.
- Experience shipping AI/LLM systems, understanding solution patterns, integration basics, and production pitfalls.
- Excellent communication skills with executive presence, able to translate complex technical trade-offs for business leaders.
- Willingness to be onsite with customers frequently (25-50%, sometimes higher).
