About the job
OpenAI's Communications team is seeking a Strategy & Operations Manager to help build a new model for how communications organizations operate, combining strategic judgment, effective operating systems, and AI capabilities. This role will translate priorities into action, lead high-impact initiatives from idea through implementation, and design better ways for the Communications team to work. You will take ownership of complex projects requiring clear thinking, strong follow-through, and a willingness to challenge traditional methods. Partnering with senior leaders, technical builders, and cross-functional teams, you will bring structure to ambiguous problems, strengthen execution, and apply AI in practical ways to improve organizational operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic initiatives and special projects across Communications, transforming ambiguous opportunities into defined problems, aligned plans, and successful implementation.
- Shape team priorities, decision-making, and follow-through for key work, including launches, campaigns, and longer-term initiatives.
- Design an AI-forward approach to project and program management, building systems to maintain momentum, surface risks, and clarify ownership and dependencies.
- Build operating rhythms, planning frameworks, and shared processes that create clarity without unnecessary meetings or manual tracking.
- Translate emerging AI capabilities into practical workflows to reduce repetitive work and strengthen coordination.
- Drive adoption of new tools and ways of working across the Communications organization by understanding user needs and improving the experience.
- Work closely with senior leaders to translate strategic priorities into clear plans, decisions, milestones, and measurable outcomes.
- Build partnerships across Communications, Marketing, Global Affairs, Product, and other teams to connect work and resolve execution gaps.
- Use data and qualitative insights to evaluate effectiveness, measure impact, and identify operational improvement opportunities.
- Foster a culture of clear ownership, thoughtful experimentation, continuous improvement, and high-quality execution.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience, including significant experience in strategy and operations, business operations, or program leadership.
- Track record of working closely with senior leaders to drive complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience leading initiatives from early idea or loosely defined problem through execution and measurable results.
- Experience introducing AI tools, building AI-enabled workflows, or helping an organization adopt new ways of working.
- Strong strategic judgment to distinguish high-impact work from activity without meaningful progress.
- Ability to translate ambiguous challenges into clear plans, align stakeholders, and sustain momentum.
- Strong analytical skills and experience using data to inform decisions and measure outcomes.
- Ability to partner effectively with technical builders and experience with agentic, automation, or no-code tools.
- Clear communication, ability to build trust across functions, and good judgment in decision-making and process simplification.
- Highly organized with the capability to manage multiple complex initiatives while maintaining strategic context and execution details.
Benefits
- Hybrid work model (three days in the office per week)
- Relocation assistance for new employees
