About the job
We are seeking product-minded engineers to build the systems behind plugins and enhance how models utilize them. Depending on your focus, you may scale generalist infrastructure and identity-related integrations across products, or improve plugin quality at the intersection of backend engineering and applied AI. You will also have the opportunity to work on the product experience itself to drive plugin usage. This role involves collaborating across teams and owning problems from diagnosis and design through implementation and release.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship APIs, SDKs, and services for developers to extend ChatGPT and Codex.
- Build intuitive user experiences for discovering, installing, and using plugins.
- Facilitate easier plugin creation, testing, publishing, updating, and sharing.
- Improve how models select and use plugins for task completion, collaborating with Research to diagnose and measure improvements.
- Enhance plugin reliability and interaction quality across ChatGPT and Codex, including interactive apps, with clear error handling.
- Develop consistent permissions, approvals, and admin controls for confident plugin adoption by individuals and organizations.
- Collaborate with developers and partners to translate recurring problems into platform, tooling, and documentation improvements.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Research, Security, and Trust & Safety teams to scale plugin infrastructure and ensure safe, reliable execution.
Requirements
- Strong product quality focus, making complex capabilities feel intuitive.
- Expertise in APIs and abstractions, with the ability to articulate design tradeoffs.
- Experience with identity, permissions, or integration-heavy systems is valuable.
- Enjoyment in engaging with users and developers to understand needs and drive product improvements.
- Ability to navigate between product questions and technical details, and lead ambiguous problems to production.
- Comfort working across web interfaces and backend systems.
- Experience building applied AI systems, diagnosing model-tool interactions, and measuring reliability and quality is valuable.
- Proven track record of building reliable products or developer tools like APIs, SDKs, open-source projects, or internal platforms.
