About the job

We are seeking a backend or backend-leaning full-stack engineer with strong technical depth and product judgment to join the Codex Enterprise team. This role involves building new products and major capabilities, shaping their direction, and owning their development from inception through launch. You will collaborate closely with product managers and Forward Deployed Engineers to translate emerging needs and deployment insights into scalable product features. The focus is on deeply technical product development, independent problem-solving, and making informed decisions about both user experience and system design.

Responsibilities

  • Shape new Codex Enterprise products and features, applying product judgment to decide what to build and how it should work.
  • Own projects from exploration through architecture, implementation, launch, and production operations, using feedback to guide ongoing iteration.
  • Build ecosystem capabilities such as plugins, skills, hooks, and discovery experiences, alongside services for enterprise administration, governance, and usage visibility.
  • Design reliable, secure, observable backend systems that support Codex experiences across web, IDEs, CLI, and CI/CD.
  • Partner with product managers and Forward Deployed Engineers to translate deployment learnings and user needs into reusable product improvements.
  • Ramp quickly in unfamiliar domains, surface edge cases, and communicate the trade-offs that shape durable technical decisions.

Requirements

  • Deep backend engineering experience, including production services and distributed systems, or backend-leaning full-stack engineers with substantial backend depth.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a new product or major capability, taking it from an ambiguous starting point through launch.
  • Exceptional coding, software design, and debugging fundamentals, with proficiency in a backend language and the ability to reason independently through difficult technical problems.
  • Strong product judgment: ability to identify essential user problems, influence product direction, and make practical trade-offs.
  • Evidence of learning unfamiliar systems or domains quickly and adapting to changing product needs and technical constraints.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including surfacing edge cases, explaining technical decisions, and bringing clarity to ambiguous problems.
  • Experience building enterprise products, integrations, or identity and governance capabilities is helpful but not required.
  • Hands-on experience as a founder who brought a product to market, or a sustained track record of growing technical responsibility at a larger company, is a plus.
