At OpenAI, we are seeking a software engineer to help build out our trust and safety capabilities, ensuring the safety, robustness, and reliability of AI models and their deployment. In this role, you will work with our engineering team to design and implement systems that detect and prevent abuse, promote user safety, and reduce risk across our platform. You will be at the forefront of our efforts to ensure that the immense potential of AI is harnessed in a responsible and sustainable manner.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain anti-abuse and content moderation infrastructure.
- Collaborate with engineers and researchers to utilize AI techniques for measuring, monitoring, and improving AI model alignment to human values.
- Diagnose and remediate active incidents on the platform and build tooling to address system failures.
Requirements
- Experience building and running production services in a high-growth, rapidly scaling environment.
- Ability to debug live issues and restore systems quickly.
- Experience with content safety, fraud, or abuse, or motivation to work on AI safety.
- Experience with Python or modern languages like C++, Rust, or Go.
- Understanding of the trade-offs between capabilities and risks, and ability to navigate them for safe deployment of novel products.
- Ability to critically assess risks of new products/features and devise innovative mitigation solutions.
- Pragmatic approach to problem-solving, knowing when to implement quick fixes versus robust solutions.
- Strong project management skills; self-directed and able to drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.
- Experience deploying classifiers or machine learning models, or eagerness to learn modern ML infrastructure.
