About the job
OpenAI's People team is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Partner to focus on the non-investigative aspects of employee relations, addressing high-impact people matters such as conflict resolution, performance management, sensitive employee exits, and navigating complex workplace dynamics. This role requires a creative, flexible, and human-centered approach to problem-solving, with a strong ability to understand context, think strategically, and design tailored solutions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable adapting quickly in a fast-changing environment, making sound decisions with imperfect information, and possess exceptional interpersonal skills to build trust and guide leaders with clarity and confidence. This position will reinforce a culture of clarity, accountability, and psychological safety, supporting leaders and teams through growth and complexity.
Responsibilities
- Advise and guide managers, HRBPs, and cross-functional partners on complex or high-risk employee situations, including performance management, conflict resolution, reorganizations, and difficult conversations.
- Shape the responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools within Employee Relations to improve workflows and service delivery while maintaining safeguards.
- Build scalable tools and frameworks to enhance ER support across the company and reduce reliance on formal investigations.
- Translate recurring ER challenges into scalable tools, guidance, and operating practices for managers.
- Serve as a sounding board and escalation partner for workplace culture concerns and manager-employee dynamics.
- Collaborate with HRBPs, Legal, and leadership to ensure alignment on people decisions, organizational changes, and policy implementation.
- Navigate ambiguity with a proactive, calm, creative, and solutions-oriented mindset.
- Use data and insights to identify trends and advise on systemic solutions that promote trust and engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in employee relations or other People roles, preferably in high-growth, fast-paced environments.
- Creative and unconventional mindset for complex people issues, with the ability to balance structure and bespoke approaches.
- Proven experience managing high-tension employee situations with discretion, empathy, and calm under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex matters with a steady, thoughtful, and pragmatic approach.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills to connect with employees, managers, and senior leaders.
- Ability to design and implement scalable solutions, including frameworks, tools, or programs.
- Experience and passion for adopting or championing new technology, including AI-enabled tools.
