OpenAI's Legal team is seeking a Senior Counsel, AI Product to advise on the development and deployment of the company's business products, including ChatGPT Business, ChatGPT Enterprise, and the API platform. This role involves close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Safety, Security, Privacy, Strategy, Go-to-Market, and other Legal teams. You will tackle complex legal issues related to enterprise product development, model launches, customer data protection, administrative controls, strategic partnerships, and the responsible deployment of advanced AI models. This is a unique opportunity to influence how cutting-edge AI products are built and delivered to businesses.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic legal partner to teams developing business products, enterprise features, and API offerings.
- Advise on product design and launches concerning enterprise administration, data governance, identity and access, connectors, integrations, agentic capabilities, and voice/multimodal experiences in the B2B space.
- Counsel teams on the responsible deployment of frontier AI capabilities, balancing customer commitments, safety, security, and privacy.
- Support strategic partnerships and distribution arrangements, including those with cloud platforms, resellers, and third-party channels.
- Partner with Commercial Legal, Privacy, Security, Safety, Product, Product Policy, and Go-to-Market teams on customer commitments, product terms, launch readiness, and legal/regulatory requirements.
- Identify emerging legal and policy issues across B2B products and help shape cross-functional strategies to address them.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in a mix of in-house or technology-focused law firm roles.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a license or qualification to practice law in California.
- Ability to approach legal problems with a practical, principled approach.
- Skill in building cross-functional relationships and communication styles that balance risk-taking with responsible development.
- Strong sense of ownership, inquisitiveness, enthusiasm for technology, and sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
