About the job
OpenAI's Identity team is building foundational systems for secure access to our products, spanning consumer and enterprise experiences. This role will lead the design for these critical identity experiences, making permissions, access, risk, and administration clear, safe, and usable. You will tackle both established identity challenges and emerging interaction models for human-to-agent and agent-to-agent interactions, defining how users understand agent capabilities and trust. Working collaboratively with product, engineering, security, and privacy teams, you will translate complex policies and technical systems into trustworthy user experiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead design direction for identity, account security, permissions, and administrative experiences across OpenAI's products.
- Design and ship high-quality experiences for sign-in, authentication, account recovery, privacy, access controls, and governance.
- Define mental models and interaction patterns for human-to-agent and agent-to-agent identity, authorization, and trust.
- Clarify what people, systems, and agents can access or do on behalf of users.
- Design security checks and confirmation flows to protect sensitive actions while minimizing friction.
- Partner with product management, engineering, security, privacy, and design peers to shape strategy and execution.
- Create coherent systems that scale by navigating complex roles, policies, dependencies, and product states.
- Contribute to and evolve design systems and patterns for identity experiences.
Requirements
- Systems-oriented product thinker capable of reasoning across complex states, dependencies, policies, and user types.
- Experience designing role-based access or permissions for organizations with multiple teams or resources.
- Ability to balance security, usability, and business needs in high-stakes workflows.
- Strong UX/UI and interaction design skills with a high bar for craft, clarity, and quality.
- Skill in translating technical capabilities and policies into understandable user mental models.
- Comfort shaping direction in evolving technological and user expectation landscapes.
- Experience with enterprise, platform, desktop, infrastructure, or similarly complex product environments.
- Excitement for establishing new conventions for identity and access in the context of AI agents.
