OpenAI's Consumer Verticals team is focused on enhancing ChatGPT's utility in crucial life areas like health, finance, and emerging agentic experiences. This role is a unique opportunity to lead the end-to-end design of new consumer products, adapting ChatGPT to diverse contexts and translating complex AI capabilities into intuitive user interactions. You will be instrumental in shaping product vision, crafting detailed interaction designs, and building prototypes to facilitate rapid learning and polished, shippable experiences. A key aspect of this role involves navigating domains where trust, accuracy, safety, and user agency are paramount, ensuring responsible product development.
Responsibilities
- Shape product and design direction for consumer experiences in health, finance, and general consumer agents.
- Design and ship high-quality products from concept to final visual execution.
- Define ChatGPT's behavior across different domains while maintaining a consistent OpenAI experience.
- Explore new interaction models for AI systems that understand context, support complex decisions, and act on behalf of users.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, product management, safety, and domain experts to create useful and responsible products.
- Conduct user research to understand specific needs, expectations, and risks within each vertical.
- Balance domain-specific requirements with reusable patterns to enhance ChatGPT and accelerate future development.
- Contribute to OpenAI's design culture and elevate the standard for consumer product craft.
Requirements
- Substantial experience designing and shipping high-quality consumer software at scale.
- Exceptional UX, UI, and interaction design skills with a high bar for craft.
- Highly generative product thinker capable of exploring broadly, forming strong viewpoints, and clarifying ambiguity.
- Experience leading zero-to-one initiatives or introducing new product categories, behaviors, or interaction models.
- Ability to simplify complex systems while retaining necessary details for informed user decisions.
- Strong understanding of trust, safety, transparency, and user control, especially in sensitive experiences.
- Fluency in moving between domain-specific problems and broader systems or platform thinking.
- Skill in communicating through compelling narratives and prototypes to build alignment across teams.
- Enthusiasm for defining the look, feel, and behavior of AI-first consumer products.
