OpenAI is seeking a Model Policy Manager to focus on shaping model behavior for U.S. government use, particularly in national security applications. This role involves defining nuanced policies and translating them into actionable training and evaluation criteria. The goal is to enable models to navigate high-stakes scenarios effectively while maintaining their utility and capabilities. You will be instrumental in ensuring that our frontier models operate safely and reliably in real-world environments by designing policies that clearly define safe model behavior.
Responsibilities
- Develop model policies to guide safe and useful behavior.
- Build evaluations to identify policy gaps and model failures.
- Use evaluation findings to improve policies and training.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, and domain experts to support safe and reliable model deployment.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in AI safety, policy, or risk assessment.
- Strong judgment to translate complex safety questions into clear, practical policies.
- Technical fluency to work hands-on with model data and evaluations.
- Motivation by OpenAI’s mission and the responsible use of AI in safety-critical settings.
- Active TS/SCI clearance or equivalent is preferred but not required.
