About the job

OpenAI's Real Estate & Workplace (REW) team is seeking a Global Transportation Program Sr. Manager to own the strategy, expansion, and performance of employee transportation programs. This role focuses on making commuting reliable, accessible, and cost-effective for employees globally. The ideal candidate is a builder experienced in launching and scaling transportation programs across countries in a fast-growing organization, translating global expansion plans into a transportation roadmap with necessary systems, vendor partnerships, and operating practices. This position requires balancing global consistency with local needs to create repeatable approaches that support company scaling.

Responsibilities

  • Own a global transportation expansion roadmap aligned with office openings, headcount growth, and commute demand, including prioritizing investments, forecasting, and leading launches.
  • Manage the global employee transportation portfolio (shuttles, parking, micromobility, transit, commuter benefits, EV charging) and determine the optimal service mix per market.
  • Build a scalable operating model across regions with repeatable playbooks, clear ownership, vendor standards, integrated tools, reporting, and training.
  • Manage transportation vendors throughout their lifecycle, including sourcing, onboarding, service reviews, renewals, and transitions, in partnership with Legal and Strategic Sourcing.
  • Own program budgets, forecasts, invoice review, and business cases, using data to recommend service optimizations or retirements.
  • Partner with various internal teams (Workplace Operations, Real Estate, Facilities, Security, People/Benefits, Payroll, Finance, Legal, IT, Comms) to deliver integrated programs.
  • Collaborate with Benefits, Payroll, and Legal to design and administer transit benefits, parking eligibility, subsidies, and reimbursement policies.
  • Establish service levels, incident escalation, backup plans, and outage communications for seamless employee navigation during disruptions.
  • Improve the employee journey for transportation services, including discovery, enrollment, booking, support, and feedback, by building clear intake and resolution processes.
  • Measure service reliability, adoption, utilization, employee satisfaction, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness, translating findings into actionable recommendations.

Requirements

  • Direct experience building and scaling employee transportation programs across multiple countries during significant organizational growth.
  • Demonstrated results in new-market launches, service reliability, adoption, and cost management.
  • Hands-on experience managing an integrated portfolio across shuttles, parking, micromobility, and transit or commuter benefits.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous expansion needs into practical plans, budgets, operating standards, and clear decisions.
  • Experience managing complex vendor relationships and commercial performance, including service levels, budgets, procurement, and service recovery.
  • Proficiency in using data to evaluate demand, service quality, utilization, and cost, and explaining tradeoffs clearly.
  • Skill in building effective cross-functional partnerships and driving decisions and accountability without formal authority.
  • Sound judgment regarding safety, accessibility, local requirements, and employee data.
  • Clear communication, ability to act on feedback, and composure during service disruptions or changing priorities.
  • Experience with commute-management platforms, transportation demand management, sustainability measurement, or systems integrations is a plus.
