We are seeking a Frontend Software Engineer to join the ChatGPT Space team, responsible for building a collaborative workspace where users and AI agents can transform ideas into polished, editable work. This role is deeply involved in crafting user experiences that span various creation tools, integrating teammates, ChatGPT, and other elements around shared knowledge and projects. You will play a key part in defining how users interact with AI, ensuring shared context is effectively represented, contributions are understandable, and users remain oriented and in control as work evolves between human collaborators and AI agents. This is a craft-heavy position focused on prototyping, iterating, and polishing new interaction models into reliable, high-performance product experiences.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship polished, high-performance UI for Space and its collaborative workflows.
- Partner closely with design to translate prototypes into production-quality experiences, focusing on details like layout, typography, motion, and interaction.
- Develop intuitive interfaces for creating and editing shared content, organizing project context, and reviewing contributions from teammates and AI.
- Own frontend architecture decisions, including component systems, state management, navigation, and rendering performance.
- Improve quality and reliability through testing, instrumentation, accessibility, and thoughtful UX for loading, errors, and concurrent changes.
- Collaborate with research, platform, and backend partners to integrate model capabilities into cohesive creation, editing, and collaboration experiences.
Requirements
- Strong experience with modern frontend stacks such as React and TypeScript.
- A high bar for UI craft and attention to detail.
- Experience building rich, interactive product experiences with a focus on performance, responsiveness, and usability.
- Ability to explore ambiguous problems and iterate rapidly with design and product teams.
- Capacity to think in end-to-end workflows and make complex interactions feel clear and intuitive.
- Experience with collaborative applications, rich-text editors, real-time interfaces, or AI-powered products is a plus.
