OpenAI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to lead the end-to-end deployment of our AI models within financial services organizations. This role is crucial for integrating advanced AI capabilities into high-stakes environments where correctness, latency, explainability, and control are paramount. You will collaborate with financial experts to translate complex workflows, data constraints, and regulatory requirements into robust production systems. Your work will directly influence product strategy, operational standards, and the scaling of AI solutions across regulated institutions, measuring success through production adoption, efficiency gains, risk reduction, and revenue impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and ship production AI systems, owning integrations, data flows, reliability, observability, and on-call readiness.
- Lead discovery and scoping from pre-sales through post-production, translating business problems into system requirements and delivery plans.
- Define and enforce launch criteria for regulated financial environments, including controls, audit artifacts, and evaluation benchmarks.
- Build systems in sensitive data environments, considering access controls, data lineage, explainability, and failure modes.
- Run evaluation loops to measure model and system quality against financial benchmarks and drive iteration.
- Manage delivery across multiple workstreams, balancing scope, speed, and quality.
- Distill deployment learnings into hardened primitives, reference architectures, playbooks, and tooling.
- Surface field feedback to inform model behavior, product capabilities, and platform gaps.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering, ML engineering, or technical deployment experience with customer-facing ownership in financial services or regulated industries.
- Experience owning complex AI or data-driven systems end-to-end in high-consequence environments.
- Familiarity with financial workflows (research, trading, risk, compliance, underwriting, operations, investment processes).
- Proficiency in writing and reviewing production-grade code using Python, JavaScript, or comparable stacks.
- Experience deploying systems powered by LLMs or generative models.
- Strong communication skills across engineering, product, risk, compliance, and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to apply systems thinking with high execution standards.
- Capacity to remain calm and decisive in urgent, ambiguous, and high-stakes situations.
