About the job

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on building software systems that proactively detect and prevent harmful misuse of advanced AI models. This is a hands-on builder role where you will guide engineers in developing production services, detection pipelines, and mitigation strategies to safeguard the integrity of frontier models and minimize high-severity misuse risks. While this role involves aspects of frontier model development and security, the primary focus is on software engineering expertise, with an emphasis on creating reliable systems capable of operating at a massive scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a software engineering team in developing detection and mitigation systems for frontier model misuse, focusing on model IP protection, distillation detection, and emerging risks from autonomous agents.
  • Define the technical roadmap and execution strategy, including prioritization, design, development, iteration, and impact measurement.
  • Build and scale production systems such as services, pipelines, tooling, instrumentation, and automation.
  • Collaborate closely with Research and Product teams to translate evolving model capabilities into scalable tests, signals, and mitigations.
  • Champion strong engineering practices in architecture, reliability, monitoring, performance, and operational excellence.
  • Hire and develop a team of engineers across backend, data systems, and applied ML.
  • Anticipate and address potential scaling issues as agentic workflows become more sophisticated.

Requirements

  • Experience building systems in adversarial, fast-evolving environments.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and novel challenges.
  • Experience in areas adjacent to security, such as abuse prevention, fraud, integrity, platform defense, authentication/identity, malware/spam, or adversarial environments.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to build trust with senior stakeholders.
  • Significant experience leading engineering teams and delivering end-to-end production systems.
  • Strong technical judgment in system design, distributed systems, data pipelines, observability, and operational reliability.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally with Research, Product, and Security to reduce risk or abuse at scale.
  • Familiarity with model extraction/distillation, adversarial evaluation, or scalable detection/mitigation approaches.
  • A background in autonomy, high-scale real-time systems, or intelligence-adjacent technical domains is a plus.
