About the job

We are seeking an Early Access Deployment Engineer to lead technical engagements with customers using our frontier capabilities. You will operate at the early stages of development, where capabilities, tooling, and processes are evolving. In this hands-on role, you will act as a technical partner to customers and our research/product teams, identifying high-value use cases, prototyping solutions, designing evaluations, and troubleshooting issues. You will manage multiple customer engagements, helping them navigate ambiguity and translating their experiences into actionable feedback for Research and Product. This role also involves owning the end-to-end execution of early access programs, from onboarding and live experimentation to synthesizing findings and informing launch decisions. Success means translating frontier capabilities into real-world customer value and high-quality research signals, developing reusable technical approaches, and improving how OpenAI learns from customers.

Responsibilities

  • Engage deeply with strategic customers during alpha stages to understand their goals, workflows, and technical constraints.
  • Translate emerging model capabilities into scoped use cases, prototypes, and success criteria.
  • Prototype rapidly with customers, Product, and Research through experiment-driven iteration.
  • Design and support evaluations to reveal model behavior, solution quality, and workflow impact.
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot based on feedback to determine patterns and gaps.
  • Own early access program execution end-to-end, including customer onboarding, live experimentation, synthesis, and launch decisions.
  • Align Research, Product, Engineering, GTM, Legal, Security, Marketing, and launch teams by communicating risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
  • Codify architectures, evaluation methods, technical patterns, and program learnings into reusable playbooks.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of software engineering or equivalent technical experience, including customer-facing delivery and ownership of production systems.
  • Track record of rapidly turning ambiguous ideas into working prototypes and reliable solutions.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Comfort across modern front-end and back-end development.
  • Familiarity with cloud deployment.
  • Practical AI and LLM depth, including experience reasoning about model behavior, designing evaluations, and building production-oriented AI applications.
  • Strong product and customer judgment to identify high-value problems and balance speed with technical integrity.
  • Ability to own problems end-to-end, learn unfamiliar concepts quickly, and impose structure without perfect information.
  • Skill in managing multiple high-stakes technical engagements simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and empathy, challenge assumptions constructively, and build trust with stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Hybrid work model (three days in the office per week)
  • Relocation assistance for new employees
