As a Deployment Lead for the Life Sciences vertical, you will be instrumental in defining and executing how OpenAI delivers complex AI systems to pharmaceutical companies and other life sciences organizations. You will own the end-to-end delivery process, from understanding customer workflows and success criteria to ensuring timely shipment of components and driving adoption. This high-autonomy role requires translating business outcomes into technical plans, managing day-to-day execution across engineering teams, and partnering closely with customers to ensure AI deployments deliver measurable value and become critical to their operations. You will also share field insights with Product and Research teams to influence the future roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the technical delivery plan for complex AI systems in the Life Sciences sector.
- Translate business objectives into actionable roadmaps with clear milestones and dependencies.
- Manage day-to-day engineering execution, tracking progress and resolving blockers across internal and customer teams.
- Embed with customer teams to drive production deployments, map workflows, and lead adoption and change management.
- Collaborate with Product and Research teams to ensure platform components and research efforts align with deployment goals.
- Codify reusable solution patterns and package field insights to improve products and models.
- Define and track value cases and ROI for AI deployments, reporting on impact to executive sponsors.
- Shape OpenAI's engagement strategy with Life Sciences customers.
Requirements
- 7+ years of customer-facing technical delivery leadership experience.
- Expertise in the Life Sciences domain.
- Proven track record of leading large, complex, high-stakes customer engagements, ideally involving AI.
- Ability to excel in high ambiguity environments and simplify complex work.
- Proficiency in moving between system-level understanding and execution details, including mapping customer workflows and sketching architectures.
- Strategic thinking and pattern-matching skills to identify broader trends and connect customer needs to scalable solutions.
- Strong technical fluency and sequencing instincts, with confidence in discussing technical details and making trade-offs.
- Experience shipping AI/LLM systems, understanding solution patterns, integration basics, and production pitfalls.
- Excellent communication skills with executive presence, capable of translating complex technical concepts for business leaders.
- Willingness to be onsite with customers frequently (often 25-50%, sometimes higher).
