OpenAI is seeking a senior cybersecurity and cyber intelligence practitioner to lead Critical Harm Operations. This role combines individual contributor depth with people management, focusing on building and scaling enforcement systems for severe user-safety risks. You will set strategic direction, translate policy into operational systems, and manage a high-performing team. The position requires strong cyber judgment, analytical skills, and the ability to drive programs from inception to scale, ensuring operational health and improving decision quality across various OpenAI products and surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Set strategic direction for Cyber Operations and translate organizational priorities into operating models, roadmaps, SOPs, and quality goals.
- Serve as the senior cybersecurity and cyber intelligence expert for complex decisions across ChatGPT, API, Codex, agents, and emerging product surfaces.
- Build trust, create clarity, and navigate disagreement across internal teams and external partners.
- Translate policy ambiguity, quality issues, and appeals into clear decision rules, calibration examples, and tooling requirements.
- Build and scale reviewer capability through onboarding, coaching, feedback, and vendor partnerships.
- Own and manage operational health, including queue coverage, productivity, quality metrics, and SLA adherence.
- Utilize analysis and automation to diagnose root causes, surface risk, and reduce manual effort.
- Develop and implement durable quality and evaluation systems to improve decision quality.
- Build new operational capabilities from the ground up, defining problems, aligning partners, and establishing metrics.
- Present strategic recommendations, tradeoffs, and operational plans to executives and partners.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity, cyber intelligence, threat intelligence, incident response, security research, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience leading teams.
- Experience building and scaling cyber operations, cyber intelligence, or abuse-prevention capabilities.
- Experience designing and launching human-in-the-loop automation or evaluation systems.
- Strong cyber judgment and ability to reason about attacker behavior and emerging threats.
- Experience building or improving high-stakes operations, reviewer programs, QA systems, or escalation workflows.
- Highly analytical with the ability to translate operational data into actionable insights.
- Proven ability to create programs and workflows in ambiguous environments.
- Strong influencing, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Exceptional executive presence and presentation skills.
- Strong customer-service acumen and ability to communicate with empathy and precision.
- Ability to translate complex cyber and policy judgment into reviewer-usable SOPs and recommendations.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive material.
