About the job

The AI revolution is driven by computation that is fast, efficient, and economical. At NVIDIA, performance is paramount, and the CUDA driver is a critical layer where architectural invention becomes useful computing. This team has a unique opportunity to impact numerous downstream systems and products by optimizing fundamental aspects of the CUDA driver and runtime. We are seeking systems software engineers to design and implement production C/C++ features and optimizations within the CUDA driver and runtime. You will trace workloads across various system boundaries, bring up new platforms, and translate evidence into future software and hardware direction, ultimately making AI tools more responsive and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, validate, and ship performance-centric features and programming-model capabilities in the CUDA driver and runtime using C/C++.
  • Optimize critical execution paths for latency, throughput, bandwidth, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Own complex performance problems end-to-end, from measurement and hypothesis to solution implementation and validation.
  • Establish performance expectations for current and future platforms, characterize new silicon, and drive performance readiness.
  • Translate workload and platform evidence into CUDA API and programming-model improvements and systems-software direction.
  • Partner with various teams (application, library, framework, OS, driver, hardware, etc.) and communicate findings clearly.
  • Lead complex feature development, define performance requirements, mentor engineers, and shape hardware/software decisions for future product generations.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of relevant systems-software development experience.
  • Strong production C/C++ systems-programming experience, including delivery of substantial features or optimizations.
  • Strong operating systems and concurrency foundations (threads, synchronization, processes, virtual memory, user/kernel interactions).
  • Strong computer-architecture foundations (processors, memory hierarchy, caching, data movement, system interconnects).
  • Demonstrated success in improving real software performance through measurement, analysis, and implementation.
  • Sound technical judgment, ownership of ambiguous problems, and clear communication across boundaries.
