About the job

NVIDIA is seeking a Senior Compiler Engineer to join a team focused on the next generation of GPU systems programming. This role involves redefining how developers create high-performance GPU software by integrating the safety, expressiveness, and modern tooling of Rust into native GPU and CUDA development. You will be instrumental in building advanced compiler pipelines, custom intermediate representation (IR) frameworks, and JIT compilation systems that connect host and device execution, enabling developers to write memory-safe, high-performance GPU kernels using idiomatic Rust.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain custom compiler backends and Rust-native intermediate representation (IR) frameworks to compile Rust to CUDA PTX and machine code.
  • Develop compiler IRs and optimizers, including GPU-specific optimizations, by working with modern compiler architectures.
  • Support complex ahead-of-time, just-in-time, and link-time optimization workflows for NVIDIA GPUs.
  • Architect compiler-enforced safety models to extend Rust's memory safety disciplines across the GPU launch boundary.
  • Implement type-safe, ergonomic device-side Rust abstractions for low-level GPU hardware primitives.
  • Build composable building blocks for future accelerated computing applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in compiler development, language design, or GPU code generation.
  • Deep expertise in Rust programming, including compiler internals (rustc), MIR, procedural macros, and the borrow-checker.
  • Hands-on experience with compiler infrastructures, intermediate representations (IRs), and code generation (e.g., LLVM IR, MLIR).
  • Solid understanding of parallel programming models, GPU architectures, and CUDA programming.
  • Strong software design skills, including debugging, profiling, and benchmarking compilers and GPU kernels.
  • Ability to orchestrate agents for product requirement design, architecture, code development, testing, code review, and issue triage.
  • Ability to work independently, define project goals, and drive complex compiler-engineering efforts.

Benefits

  • Equity
  • Generous benefits package
