About the job

NVIDIA is seeking a Principal Perception Engineer to lead the design and productization of next-generation autonomous driving perception stacks. This senior individual contributor role involves setting technical direction for 3D obstacle perception, driving cross-functional execution, and mentoring engineers. The role requires deep hands-on involvement in architecture, algorithms, and implementation, with a focus on modern transformer-based, multi-modal, and vision-language techniques. The goal is to build intelligent machines that can perceive, reason, and solve complex problems using GPU-accelerated deep learning.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for 3D obstacle perception.
  • Design and develop advanced 3D perception models using multi-camera and multi-sensor fusion.
  • Lead the development of efficient, production-grade deep learning models, defining objectives, selecting architectures, and guiding experimentation.
  • Define and drive KPI frameworks to quantify perception performance and analyze datasets to improve accuracy and robustness.
  • Lead data strategy for perception, specifying data requirements and prioritizing collection and annotation.
  • Partner with safety, systems, and software teams to ensure perception solutions meet stringent product requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of hands-on experience developing deep learning-based perception systems for complex real-world problems.
  • Strong proficiency in frameworks such as PyTorch and a track record of taking models from prototype to production.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership as a senior or principal-level individual contributor.
  • Proven experience in data-driven development and collaboration with data/labeling teams.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields (or equivalent experience).
