Nox Metals is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to develop production systems that enhance the speed and accuracy of quoting, material selection, planning, and factory decisions. This role involves working with complex operational data, testing hypotheses against real-world outcomes, and deploying effective solutions into production. The focus is on applied machine learning, where models must demonstrably improve decisions, withstand operational conditions, and gain user trust.
Responsibilities
- Identify high-value opportunities for machine learning and optimization.
- Build datasets, features, models, evaluation systems, and production pipelines.
- Establish strong baselines before adding complexity.
- Deploy models into customer and internal workflows with software engineers.
- Monitor model quality, drift, latency, and business impact.
- Design safeguards and clear fallbacks for uncertain predictions.
- Work with operators and domain experts to understand constraints and failure modes.
- Improve data quality and make model behavior explainable.
- Document experiments and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
Requirements
- Strong applied machine learning, statistics, and software engineering skills.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Rigorous approach to evaluation and skepticism of unproven demos.
- Ability to translate operational problems into measurable learning problems.
- Experience deploying and maintaining models, not just training them.
- Curiosity about factories, materials, and supply chains.
- Clear, practical communication style and willingness to adapt based on data.
- Experience with operations research, geometric optimization, forecasting, or pricing (nice to have).
- Experience with industrial, logistics, or marketplace data (nice to have).
- Experience building human-in-the-loop decision systems (nice to have).
- Experience applying modern AI models responsibly in production (nice to have).
