About the job
n8n is seeking an Agentic Engineering Platform Engineer to embed AI agents across the development lifecycle, from planning and building to testing and learning. This role involves maintaining and evolving the platform, tools, and processes that enable safe, measurable, and sustainable agentic development. You will collaborate with various engineering teams to integrate frontier AI advancements, making success visible through faster feedback loops and improved quality. The goal is to build a robust foundation for agentic development, ensuring agents operate effectively and securely within n8n's engineering workflows.
Responsibilities
- Define safe task categories for autonomous agents, specifying their capabilities and limitations.
- Design and implement isolated execution environments for agent work.
- Build pilot workflows for agents to handle Linear issues, test them, and convert them into draft PRs.
- Create and maintain repository instructions, agent playbooks, and documentation to enhance agent performance.
- Continuously improve developer workflows, repository structure, testability, and documentation based on agent performance.
- Partner with Architecture and senior engineers to define agent boundaries and dependencies.
- Integrate agentic workflows with tools like Linear, GitHub, CI, and test infrastructure.
- Design PR evidence templates to aid reviewers in understanding changes and risks.
- Define guardrails for sensitive areas such as authentication, billing, permissions, and data handling.
- Create benchmarks to evaluate agent output quality, failure modes, and test pass rates.
- Define quality signals and adoption metrics like draft PR usefulness and developer satisfaction.
- Use data and feedback to improve agent workflows and build trust.
Requirements
- Experience with autonomous coding agents, AI coding platforms, agent orchestration systems, or internal AI developer tooling.
- Practical experience building, deploying, or operating AI-assisted or agentic software development workflows.
- Strong software engineering background, ideally in platform engineering, developer experience, infrastructure, tooling, CI/CD, or engineering productivity.
- Comfort leading technical initiatives from problem definition to iteration.
- Deep understanding of modern engineering workflows including GitHub, CI, testing strategies, code review, monorepos, issue tracking, developer environments, and release risk.
- Strong judgment regarding permissions, secrets, sandboxing, sensitive code paths, and human-in-the-loop review.
- Ability to design benchmarks, quality signals, failure-mode tracking, and adoption metrics.
- Strong written communication skills for technical documentation and proposals.
- Credibility with senior engineers and ability to influence cross-functionally.
