We are seeking Forward Deployed Engineers to join our engineering team, working at the intersection of deep infrastructure and direct customer impact. In this role, you will partner with leading AI companies and foundation labs on cloud architecture, networking, storage, containerization, and sandboxing. Your primary goal will be to help them design and deploy production infrastructure on Modal's platform, acting as a key technical advisor and problem-solver.
Responsibilities
- Work hands-on with companies to architect and deploy large-scale production workloads on Modal.
- Lead technical discovery and architecture sessions with customers.
- Architect migration paths from existing cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) to Modal's serverless platform.
- Collaborate with product and sales teams, contributing to the platform as an engineer and product stakeholder.
- Build trusted relationships with technical leaders at companies doing frontier AI work.
- Conduct technical demos, experiments, and proof-of-concepts to showcase Modal's infrastructure advantages.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) including compute, storage, networking, and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with distributed systems architecture, data pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation).
- Strong communication skills, capable of discussing systems architecture in depth and articulating tradeoffs to technical leadership.
- Genuine interest in working directly with customers and solving their problems.
- Experience leading large-scale migration efforts, open-source contributions, or significant side projects is a plus.
